Coming Soon – Painting with Light Gallery

Our photography is defined by our interpretation of light within a scene. As our gallery name suggests this concept has primacy in every aspect of what we do photographically. We are happy to announce that we are developing this concept in new ways through combinations of light and movement. We are currently creating a body of work which utilises such notions to create abstract interpretations of nature. This new online gallery will be up and run...

Wicklow Photography Workshops – September 20-21 and 27-28

Thanks to everyone who participated in our April and May workshops. The weather wasn’t too great at times but we still managed to have a good time and felt everyone who participated came away with some good images and lots to think about technically. We will be holding two further weekend workshops in Wicklow this September. Hopefully we can get some good Autumn colours and some great light. Participants are limited to 6 so book early to...

New Images

It’s been a busy couple of months photography wise between workshops and the creation of new imagery. The fact that we shoot everything on slide film ensures we can make great prints but it does slow us up a little in getting new work up on the website. We think its been worth the wait. Ed and I have just come back from a week long trip photographing the magical Dingle peninsula in the West of Ireland. It’s quite a drive from Dubli...

Landscape Photography Ireland - Circular Porlariser's

I mentioned the importance of neutral density filters for landscape photography in a previous entry. Another key filter is the circular polariser. Landscape photography can often be an exercise in futility without this great filter. My polariser is primarily used for holding in details in blue skies, removing contrast from foregrounds and taking unwanted glare off rivers and waterfalls. Prime time for landscape photography is unquestionably ...

Landscape Photography Ireland – The Importance of a Sharp Image

As photographers one of the most important technical elements of our work is intentional sharpness. Of course there are many striking beautiful images out there that lack sharpness but 99.9% of the time this is intentionally done for mood or atmosphere. Furthermore 99.9% of these are not landscapes. Where landscape photography is concerned sharpness is a key factor in making a beautiful engaging image. If a scene inspires it tends to catalyse a v...

Photography Wicklow

The wonderful diversity of Wicklow's landscape provides endless opportunities for the photographer. You can find beautiful photo ops both along the Wicklow coast and more inland in areas such as the beautiful Sally Gap. My photographic experience in Wicklow has found its focus in both of these regions. The former is an area I plan to explore further over the coming months as I seek out new photo ops. I have been fortunate to witness some beautif...

Landscape Photography Ireland - Graduated Neutral Density

As a landscape photographer who practices my trade in both Ireland and abroad, I cannot stress enough the importance of graduated neutral density filters. Landscape photography which prides itself on getting the image right in camera, is mostly a futile exercise without the presence of this important filter. So why is this the case? When we take a photograph, either film or a digital sensor, is used to record what we the photographer point the...

In this scenario we are pleases by the new additions to the ExploreLight collection.   Hope y...
