About Us

Internationally recognised and award winning Irish photographer Ed Gordon established ExploreLight in 1998. A desire to explore light as both a photographer and a man is the driving force behind the art on these pages. In 2006 Ed teamed up with his son, and fellow photographer Peter, to extend the range of imagery available in the ExploreLight gallery and take the company in a new and exciting direction.

Ed and Peter’s commitment to creating imagery of the highest quality is reflected within ExploreLight’s current gallery of imagery. New imagery is always carefully selected to improve an already extensive body of work. Please visit our ‘gallery’ page to see our range of work. For updates please sign up to our newsletter and be the first to see new work and receive news of forthcoming events and tutorials.

The ExploreLight photographic collection cuts genres and breaks boundaries by capturing the beauty of the world we live in and it’s peoples. Our work draws inspiration from sources as diverse as the West coast of Ireland to the streets of India. It is Ed and Peter’s belief that beauty and artistic connections can be drawn from what often appears to be contrasting origins. Photographic visions are bound together and interpreted by the photographer through their common artistry and grace. Peter and Ed believe in the commonality of wonder and find beauty on the impoverished streets of Jaipur, or fine art in the female form. But mostly inspiration is found in the wild and untamed landscape which is reflected in the galleries of ExploreLight.

Sharing such passion and knowledge is an integral part of the ExploreLight outlook. Consequently we offer a range of workshops and courses. Taught and led by Ed and Peter, our aim is to share our collective knowledge and experience of photography. These workshops embody many years of collected learning and experience. Focus is always placed on learning but getting to the best locations, most likely to have the best light, at the right time of day is also crucial. To learn more about our current courses on offer please visit our ‘workshops’ page and stay informed by signing up to our Newsletter.

Ed and Peter believe that imagery is created for print and should be enjoyed as fine art in colour or black and white.  The goal is always to achieve the finest quality image in camera so that the finest quality print can be made. Since 2007 Ed and Peter have exhibited their collective body of work in a host of galleries and art shows. Most recently (2009) our work was exhibited in the Dublin Photographic Centre and the Brightlife Gallery which was featured in the ‘Right Here Right Now’ column of the Irish Times by Deirdre McQuillan.

Ed and Peter have also received further domestic and international acclaim for their work. Both photographers hold qualifications with the Irish Professional Photographers Association while Ed has also achieved the Associateship with the Royal Photographic Society. Ed’s work has been published in Photo Art International and he was recently interviewed by nationwide radio 4fm. Peters work has been published in Outdoor Photography and in 2008 he was awarded third place in his category in the International Photo Awards paving way for publication in the 2008 Annual IPA Book.
