Wicklow Weekend Workshop

Experience some great photographic locations and get some great technical advice exploring Ireland's wonderful Wicklow with Ireland's No1 landscape photographers Ed and Peter Gordon.

Peter has been photographing the area for many years and has an intimate knowledge of locations for sunrise, sunset and daytime shooting. Consequently you will receive the benefit of technical information and a wealth of location experience.

The main photographic focus will be on landscape photography and abstract depictions of the natural environment. While an SLR camera and tripod are essential, we can cater to all levels of photography taking you through the basics of exposure to advanced techniques such as the zone system. This is all made possible by the small group sizes and the presence of two instructors.

Workshop Program

We do not set out a specific location itinerary, as Peter will bring you to the best locations under prevailing light conditions. As a general guide however, we will be visiting areas such as Wicklow Head, the Sally Gap, Powerscourt, Glendelough and more. We will be photographing lakes, rivers, forests, bogland and seascapes as well as intimate details found in all locations.

Starting and finishing times are dependant on time of year. Whatever time we start and finish we do try to dedicate Saturday to field work and instruction through practice. Hopefully the lights amazing.  Sunday morning will entail more field work after which the rest of the day will be dedicated to a review of our weekends work, making notes and Photoshop editing. All of this will be carried out indoors in comfortable surroundings.

We feel this structure to the weekend gives us the best chance of making great pictures and learning. As we only have a maximum of six participants everyone will be able to learn at their own pace.

Costs and What’s Included for Wicklow Weekend Workshop

The cost of the workshop is 450e per person. For this fee you will receive all tuition and location guide as described above. Transportation costs and food are also included in this price. Accommodation can be arranged upon request.

Critique and Editing

This process tends to be of great benefit for our participants as we can highlight what you have done right and what has gone wrong.

We also show the The 'ExploreLight Landscape Action' which has been developed to pass onto workshop participants a simple but extremely effective way to process images. Actions are a function of Photoshop which allow you to record a series of adjustments. Once this series of adjustments have been recorded they can then be carried out with ease on any image you open. The beauty of the action is that it allows you change the severity of each adjustment on an image by image basis. No two shots are the same so varying degrees of change are required depending on the shots your working on. The adjustments within the action target contrast, saturation and glow, shadow detail and highlight detail all with one click of a button. Each facet can then by individually tweaked after the action has been run.
