Extended Weekend West of Ireland Workshop

The West of Ireland boasts stunning natural beauty making for a real treat for the landscape photographer. Our focus on this workshop will be on the natural beauty of south west Donegal. Peter has made countless trips to the West so learning new skills will be combined with photographing hand picked beautiful locations. If you want to photograph dramatic mountains, stunning coastline and intriguing forest then this is the workshop for you.

We will be located in self-catering accommodation in the beautiful region of Glenveagh National Park. Our proximity to our shoots will allow us to become immersed in nature and the group dynamic.

The main photographic focus will be on landscape photography and abstract depictions of the natural environment. While an SLR camera and tripod are essential, we can cater to all levels of photography taking you through the basics of exposure to advanced techniques such as the zone system. This is all made possible by the small group sizes.

Workshop Program

We do not set out a specific location itinerary, as Peter will bring you to the best locations under prevailing light conditions. As a general guide however, we will be visiting areas such as Glenveagh National Park, Carrikfinn, Bloody Foreland and Falcarragh. We will be photographing lakes, rivers, forests, bogland and seascapes as well as intimate details found in all locations.

Our days will entail sunrise and sunset shoots. We will be having a break for a few hours after breakfast if you need a snooze. The day will then be divided between shooting, critiquing and post processing in Photoshop. We will begin with a sunset shoot Thursday and finish up on Sunday after a review of the weekend and some breakfast.

Costs and What’s Included

The cost of the workshop is €690 for shared occupancy and €780 for singe occupancy. For this fee you will receive all tuition and location guide as described above. Accommodation in high quality rental property (some single and double occupancy), transportation costs (from accommodation to shoot locations) and food is also included in this price. Single occupancy is alocated on a first come first serve basis. Alchohol is not included.

It’s an all-inclusive long weekend so all you have to do is worry about making beautiful images and learning great new skills.

Critique and Editing

This process tends to be of great benefit for our participants as we can highlight what you have done right and what has gone wrong. We can also show you ExploreLight Landscape Action to help improve your imagery.

The 'ExploreLight Landscape Action' has been developed to pass onto workshop participants a simple but extremely effective way to process images. Actions are a function of Photoshop which allow you to record a series of adjustments. Once this series of adjustments have been recorded they can then be carried out with ease on any image you open. The beauty of the action is that it allows you change the severity of each adjustment on an image by image basis. No two shots are the same so varying degrees of change are required depending on the shots your working on. The adjustments within the action target contrast, saturation and glow, shadow detail and highlight detail all with one click of a button. Each facet can then by individually tweaked after the action has been run.
